A big thank you to everyone who entered the Harry Potter Sound Effect Competition here on Yoto Space. Read on to find out who won!
As a reminder: the task was for your child to listen to a Harry Potter audio clip, and imagine how they could create a sound effect that reflects what's happening in the scene. Then capture it on video, and send it to us.
There were over 180 submissions and we enjoyed watching and listening to all of them!
The winning entries were selected by the expert ear of Dom, Head of Music & Sound at Yoto.
First Place: Ada-Wednesday's Sounds for Norbert the Norwegian Ridgeback
Dom says: “We loved the use of different objects, especially the eggs and wet flannel. It was a great that the sound design went throughout the piece with very few gaps, it felt like we were right next to a slimy little Norbert.”
Ada-Wednesday won: A one-of-a-kind gift box, chocolate frogs, chocolate Hogwarts Express tickets, a Yoto Player, Harry Potter: The Complete Collection Yoto Card Pack, and an Adventure Jacket.
Second Place: Nunley Family Norwegian Ridgeback Audio
Dom says: “We saw so many team efforts but this one stood out. Kids of all ages working together and having tons of fun. Great timing and cool sound choices too.”
The Nunley Family won: a Yoto Player and a Harry Potter: The Complete Collection Yoto Card Pack
Third Place: Rebekah’s Quidditch game sounds
Dom says: “This really bought the movement and drama of the match to life. It showcased perfect timing and a very imaginative sound selection.”
Rebekah won: Harry Potter: The Complete Collection Yoto Card Pack
Thanks to everyone who took time to record and submit a video.
We hope that by taking part - or even just seeing other people make their own sound effects - your kids enjoyed being introduced to the creative challenge of making audio. It’s a great way to put vivid imaginations to use… and a fun thing to do together for your own Make Your Own cards.
