How to enter
This is the ultimate Yoto x Harry Potter crossover.
Ask your child to listen to a Harry Potter audio clip, and imagine how they could create a sound effect that reflects what's happening in the scene.
For inspiration, you can watch a video together of how Yoto make sound effects.
Then, record a video of the method your child uses to make their sound effect, and submit it below!
Step 1
Choose one of these scenes from the Harry Potter audiobooks.
UK Audio
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone - Chapter 14 - Norbert the Norwegian Ridgeback
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone - Chapter 11 - Quidditch
North America Audio
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone - Chapter 14 - Norbert the Norwegian Ridgeback
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone - Chapter 11 - Quidditch
Norbert the Norwegian Ridgeback excerpt taken from “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” and Quidditch excerpt taken from “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” and used with the kind permission of Pottermore Limited. © J.K. Rowling/Pottermore Ltd. TM WBEI.
Step 2
Conjure up a sound effect for the scene.
Need inspiration? Watch these sound-making examples by Rowan, one of our magical Sound Engineers:
Step 3
Record and upload a video of your child demonstrating how they made their sound effect. You don't need to show their face - focus the camera on where the sound is coming from.
Submit it below before 18 October 2024 at midnight PST / 19 October 2024 at 7am GMT.
Three lucky winners will be chosen by Yoto’s Head of Sound, Dom!
Good luck!

About the competition
We recommend focusing on the objects that are making the sounds! You will want to get your camera as close to the action as possible to improve sound quality. Try to avoid having any people/background noise in the shot as well.
We also recommend listening to the audio clip in headphones while recording the sound effects. This will help you get the timing right (and also make you feel like a real Foley professional)!
