We are delighted to announce the shortlist for the first ever Audio Maker Competition on Yoto!
These 38 titles, chosen from over 180 entries, represent the incredible breadth of creativity shown by all those who have taken part. Thirteen of the entries have been made by children, and the creators range from complete novices to the much more experienced.
The titles include:

Games and activities
Affirmations
Poetry
Travel Guides
Yoto Daily spin-offs
Soundscapes
The shortlist selection was made by the Listening Committee who were responsible for listening to all the entries.
Tom Ballhatchet, Chief Creative Officer at Yoto and Chair of the Listening Committee says:
“We have been blown away by the variety of the entries sent in. They really do show what is possible on a Yoto Card, and they have been an inspiration to the Yoto team. It was really hard to narrow down the selection to the shortlist and I don’t envy the judging panel who have to pick a winner!
“We chose these titles because they each showed moments of real creativity and skill, and the winner will likely be the one that has taken a great concept and then made that come alive as a Yoto Card in the script, the audio, the card art, and the pixel art. As well as being something that just passes the ‘would-we-make-a-Yoto-Card-from-it’ test.”
Dom Hodge, Head of Music and Sound at Yoto and other half of the Listening Committee(!) says:
“I love that so many kids took part, as well as the many adults getting creative with audio for the first time. The shortlist is a great way for people to discover something new, but there is plenty beyond that to enjoy.”
The winners will be chosen by the judging panel and announced on Thursday June 1st 2023:
First prize wins $1,000 (or equivalent where you are)
2nd prize wins $300
3rd prize wins $200
4th prize wins $100
5th prize wins $50
The community vote
The top ten entries based on the number of likes received on Yoto Space will each receive $100 (or equivalent in your currency). These can be any entries, not just ones from the shortlist, so you can really have your say.
So try out all those interesting entries, put them on a Make Your Own card so you can try them with the kids, and remember to place your votes by the end of May.
And if you made an entry (and even if you didn’t), feel free to sing and/or dance about it wherever you like to sing and/or dance. A post on Facebook, a Tweet, your family Whatapp group, to other parents at the school gate! Spread the word and let people know about all the interesting audio there is to find here on Yoto Space.
