If you love your Yoto, but the price of the cards are making you hesitate to expand your library, get the MYO cards!! They are the key to making the Yoto a more affordable option!!

Each card can hold up to 100 tracks and, even though they say 6hrs, the cards can hold upwards of 60hrs.

Head to the Yoto Facebook page to find the Canva template to print your own cover art. Then…

Get the “JOYEZA Premium Printable Vinyl Sticker Paper” and “Con-Tact Brand Clear Cover Adhesive Covering, Clear, 18\" x 16 ft, Matte” for your labels.

Use 8bit Painter app to create your own track icons or visit the yotoicon website to download ones that people have already created.

You need to own the mp3s in order to put them on these cards. That means you CANNOT link a Spotify/Amazon Music/other streaming service playlist to these cards. Music will need to be ripped from CDs (via iTunes) or purchased. Audiobooks need to be purchased from Audible (be prepared to spend $20 on OpenAudible to convert the format to mp3), DownPour, or Libro.fm.

There are plenty of free audiobooks available. Google search that.

You CAN link podcasts and radio stations if you have their RSS links. It will update the cards in real time and stream.

Check out ListenNotes website to download the MP3s of individual podcast episodes. That way, you can have a card with multiple podcasts. If you connect it via RSS link, you can only have the one podcast series on that card.

You cannot link audiobooks from Libby, but if you have the desktop Overdrive app (Google to find), you can download library books from the website and delete them when your loan expires (honor system).

Definitely consider making a “Library Card” where you can trial different books before committing to making a whole card or if your selection will change often like it will when using Overdrive (BorrowBox if you’re in the UK).

I use one of my cards for homeschooling and add an audiobook for our weekly read aloud, a nursery rhyme that I record on my phone (you need an mp3 recorder app), and some music tracks that correlate with our curriculum.

For some fun DIY audiobooks, check out the “Novel Effects” app. It adds sound effects to your voice as you read in real time. You’ll need to use a second device to record yourself.

These are really fun and you can be as creative as you want to be. Some of our cards (not pictured) are labeled with masking tape and a sharpie while others have these professional looking cover art that are nearly indistinguishable from the OG Yoto cards.

I have a card with songs that I made up and sung and one with grandparents doing read alouds.

You can use ChatGPT (AI website) to generate fun adventure stories and record yourself reading them.

I’ve heard of parents making interactive cards like “Beat the Yoto” where it’s like a timer to finish a set of math problems and bedtime cards to make nights with a babysitter a bit easier. The applications are truly limitless!
