Series One, Episode Two: Repair and Maintenance

The wonderful exhibition I attended at the beginning of the episode was Socks: The Art of Care and Repair, created by artist Celia Pym, with the Surrey Square Primary School community, and facilitated by NOW Gallery. Watch a great video about the exhibition and see the artworks for yourself!

Celia Pym has a wonderful book, called On Mending, and you can also read a nice interview with her. There are loads of ways to repair your clothes, start learning about how to darn in a simple YouTube tutorial.

I met with Megan, Anaïs and Oscar of Team Team Repair to learn about their amazing programs teaching kids how to safely repair electronics, in order to tackle the e-waste crisis and encourage interest in STEM careers. If you’re an educator with a classroom full of kids who’d love to learn how to fix their own gadgets, check out the Team Repair website.

If you’d like to learn more at home, Team Repair have a subscription service. They are working on rolling out their programs internationally and ALSO creating a product for adults to learn electronic repair too!

Charlotte, Doll Doctor at the Leith Toy Hospital in Edinburgh, can also be seen on television! Watch Channel 5’s The Toy Hospital (UK only), if you’d like to hear more from Charlotte. The Leith Toy Hospital also has some amazing merch, if that’s up your alley.
