Card download not working as described in the instructions

We just received the 3rd generation Yoto Player. When I followed the instructions to insert the cards into the player one by one, to give the player the opportunity to download the cards, the App consistently states: "Not downloaded: These titles aren't saved on your player right now. Play any title again to re-trigger the download. Insert card to download." In order for the download to work, I have to insert the card, stop the card playing through the App on the phone, and then leave the card in the player. In spite of the "Excellent Signal" quality reported by the App. The download is very slow. I would appreciate some insight as to whether this is specific to my purchased device (and I should exchange it), or whether this is a common experience.
