Jake's Pick of the Week

Hi folks! It’s Jake here, from Yoto Daily, our bite-sized daily podcast.

Making that show is just one part of my job here at Yoto; I am also lucky enough to be involved, in one way or another, in producing many of our incredible Yoto Originals cards.

So, I thought it would be cool to share with you five of my favourites made by our wonderful Yoto Originals team. All our Originals are excellent, by the way, so it was hard to just pick five, but in no particular order, here they are…

The Solar System

I love this narrative driven exploration of the planets - it is full of mind-blowing facts about the solar system delivered through a fun, interactive story.

You can choose to visit the different planets with Kat, Jamal and their trusty Transmitter, or carry on the central story via the main Sun card.

There is also a scavenger hunt element to the story, whereby you have to collect clues along the way to reveal a puzzle at the end.

I learnt so much from this pack and I’m sure you will too. Who knew it is technically your birthday every day on Venus!?

Songs for Little Pirates

A big favourite in our house, full of pure piratey fun, the songs are a mixture of familiar sea shanties and sing-along songs.

Whether singing along to Grumpy Sailor in the kitchen or using Row the Boat as a soundtrack to bathtime, these songs have livened up our house for months. Are these the best pirate songs for kids in the world? Yes they arrrrrrrggggh!

5-Minute Stories: In the Wild

I love this collection of short stories from our Yoto Originals 5-Minute Stories series.

I laughed along with Stella the Sloth, who gets to experience what life is like in the fast lane and I learnt about ‘pronking’ with Ayanda the springbok.

They are fun, engaging and a great introduction to some of the wonderful wildlife found on this glorious, green globe of ours. Highly recommended!

Yoto Classics Collection

I couldn’t choose just one card from this pack, so I am going for the whole collection. Quite simply, they are all excellent.

Classic stories many of us will know and love brought to life by our team. They all have a full cast of incredible actors and narrators, including Claire Foy and Guy Garvey among many others.

I am so happy that stories I have known and loved my whole life I can now share with my children and thousands of Yoto families. They really are incredibly well produced and absolutely do justice to these beloved classics.

Flags of the World

I love flags! Always have and always will. And, boy, does this card feature a lot of flags, 50 of them in fact!

50 flags to learn, all accompanied by a fun fact about that country. For example, in Thailand it is illegal to leave your house without wearing underpants!

Oh, and you may recognise the voice on this card too 😉
