An update from Yoto's founders: product improvements

Dear Yoto Community,

We hope that 2025 has got off to a great start for you and your family. Thanks for bearing with us through what was a rather frenetic end to 2024!

Now that 2025 is well underway, we wanted to update you on some key product improvements that we’ve been working on and that we hope you’ll be pleased to hear about.

Product improvements

We’ve always believed the experience of Yoto should get better over time and one of the major things we’ve been working on is improving the offline experience of Yoto (we know that Yoto gets used a lot on-the-go) in cars with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and on planes etc.

The following product upgrades should help a lot:

  • Offline Downloads in the Yoto App - this is currently in beta testing for iOS via 'Testflight' and will allow you to choose what cards to save on your phone for offline playback. Really useful as a back up to the players on those long car journeys and flights. This will roll out to iPhones first and Android. Watch the video below to see how it works.

  • Audio format changes - We’re upgrading most of our audio to the amazing, modern, open-source Opus format. This will result in up to 150% increase in download speed, and an up to 150% increase in offline storage capacity. It will take some time to convert and test everything and we’re starting with the longer cards first. You will continue to see improvements over the coming weeks and months on this.

  • Right-hand button preview - we’re working on a user interface upgrade to give you more control over what the right-hand button does and to give you easy access to downloaded content on-the-go. This is a major upgrade and is proving technically challenging but we will get there. We’ll keep you posted when it’s ready to test.

As well as these improvements to the offline experience we have also rolled out a Wishlist upgrade on the website.

Your wishlist is now saved to your Yoto account, allowing you to access it anytime, anywhere, and on any device.

To sync your wishlist, just log in to your account on each device where your wishlist exists, and it will sync automatically. You’ll only need to do this once per device. The next time you login on any device, you’ll be able to access all wishlist items. We hope this makes shopping and sharing even more enjoyable!

More on all of this via our Live Roadmap.

An update on Battery Replacement Kits

Finally, for those who have ordered a Battery Replacement Kit for Yoto Mini (2021-23) - we have good stock availability now. Once installed and registered (it’s really important to register your new battery for verification purposes) you will be eligible for a $20/£20 voucher and these will be sent up to 45 days post registration. We are planning to send the first vouchers from next week, beginning February 3rd.

If you have a Yoto Mini sold between 2021 and 2023 and haven’t yet ordered your Battery Replacement Kit, please do so.

Thank you again for being part of our Yoto Community, we’re looking forward to a great 2025 with you all.
