We often get asked what is the most important thing to consider when creating audio for a Yoto Card.
The real answer is that everything is important, and in our Cheat Sheet post we share our top tips for making a great piece of all round audio.
But probably the biggest single thing you can do to up your audio making game is use a microphone that records good quality audio. After all, this is what everyone will be listening to once your card art and blurb have drawn them in in the first place!
Which type of microphone to use?
This depends on whether you are recording at home, or outside. What follows are just a couple of suggestions for what you might find useful. We are not endorsing these products and we receive no incentive for mentioning them. Plus there will be lots of cheaper or more expensive products that may be more suitable for you.
I'm at home
You'll want something desk-based and simple to use, that can give you top notch audio.
We recently gifted this microphone to two of our younger entrants from the first Audio Maker Competition, as we wanted to recognise their efforts and perhaps even inspire them to continue making audio creatively.
Both these entries are worth checking out if you have not done so yet:
I'm in the field
If you are recording audio 'in the field', when you are out of the home, then something more portable is the way to go.
This is the microphone we gifted to Rosie, the creator of the entry below, which we thought would be great way for Rosie to make more inspiring and fun recordings out in the world:
