Terminology/Acronyms
IOT -internet of things
MMO-Massive Multiplayer Online
RPG- Role Playing Game;
DM- Dungeon master (person who controls the game)
CYO-Choose your own (adventure)
And here I have to give a shout out to the person who made the cat one that's semifinals/short with over 80 options CYO list is a great genre, created 50 years ago. It's wonderful for print and for audio.
One book I had, Fabled Lands, pushed CYO into RPG territory, with the dice outcome making the decision. I've been toying with a way to improve on that (which is how I wound up with my 2D6 card)
Finding a way for audio to be an interactive sort of DM was what I experimented with on Clever Sprites...a limited decision tree. The player picks like in a CYO but it has the ability to be RPG if those "options" were limited by dice rolls.
My final idea I've been toying with is to push the IOT functions of Yoto and create a kind of MMO game that would be played by using cards, and podcasts and updates. There would be several options for characters. Lets say they are all anamorphic animals and humans. There are a 6? base options. Each track number is a defined parameter. Strength, agility, body, charisma, intelligence, will power (First six) with additional options like special powers, moves and ability (remaining 6). These are available on a website by using a drop down menu to get the correct file on an MYO or even a special card.
The game would run on a bi-weekly podcast. The podcast tells the story of what's happening. In order to find out what's happening with YOUR character, their stats you need to make sure your card is updated. So let's say the podcast is on a Monday. On Tuesday the server updates. Each of the 6 characters is affected differently. And each of the choices is...but in some ways it's all pre determined because there's logic that basically indicates that after this podcast the Raccoon character gets upgrade from +1 to agility. If the play selected a 6, it goes to 7, etc.
On the server side each track would be part of a database that defines that attribute. It updates on a script, so after set up there's not much work.
Each players has a unique experience because even if two wolves are played they still may have different options.
The 2nd podcast of the week is a physical activity/adventure one. Maybe a baking challenge, maybe art or science or something. At the end it would tell the user what stat gains they got for that activity that they could logon and update. This challenge would focus on two -three stat areas. So if you have a dimensional pocket you get to use three different brushes, but if you had low agility, you color with your non-dominant hand. If you have a special power of charm you find a friend who's never had black bean brownies and convince them to eat them. Or you have musical ability and need to sing all your improv tasks. Something that takes an experience card and puts it on it's head.
