Terms and Conditions
You are invited to submit an original application as part of the Yoto Developer Challenge 2025 (the “Competition”). This Competition is organised by Yoto Limited (company number 09542062) whose registered office is at 124 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX (“Yoto”).
These terms and conditions (“Terms”) govern your participation in the Competition. By entering the Competition, you agree to these Terms. No purchase is necessary to enter.
1. Eligibility
1.1. To participate in this Competition, you must:
a. Be at least 18 years
b. Be a legal resident of the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, the United States of America, Canada (excluding Quebec) or Australia.
1.2 You are not eligible to enter this Competition if you are an employee, director or contractor of Yoto, or an immediate family member of any of the above, or if you have previously been disqualified from a Yoto competition.
2. Entry Requirements
2.1 Entries will only be accepted via the form at https://yoto.space/developers, from 13:00 BST on 23 July 2025 until 23:59 BST on 15 September 2025.
2.2 To enter this Competition, you must:
a. Create an original software application (“App”) that is compatible with the Yoto platform and complies with the Yoto API Terms of Service,
b. Prepare supporting materials including a clear description of your App, one representative image and user instructions explaining how to use your App, and
c. Submit your entry via the form at https://yoto.space/developers.
Your App must fall into one of the following categories:
Yoto Card App
A card that includes dynamically generated audio or icons, tailored to the user or group of users (e.g. based on IP location, time of day, season, events)Yoto API integration
A live integration with the Yoto API that accesses user-specific resources (using JWT authentication), triggered by the user or external events (e.g. interacting with the user’s Yoto Player or MYO playlists)
2.3 Your entry must be your original work and must not infringe any third party intellectual property rights. By submitting your entry, you warrant that you have all necessary rights, licenses and permissions to submit your entry.
2.4 Your entry must not contain any content that:
a. Is defamatory, obscene, offensive or inappropriate for children,
b. Infringes on any third party rights, or
c. Promotes illegal or unlawful activity.
2.5 You are entirely responsible for ensuring your entry is complete, accurate and submitted before the deadline. Yoto does not accept responsibility for incomplete, corrupted or late submissions.
2.6 Yoto reserves the right to reject, disqualify, or remove any entry that does not comply with these Terms, or the Yoto API Terms of Service, or is technically defective, poses security risks, or is otherwise unsuitable for the Competition. Yoto's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding rejected entries.
3. Prize
3.1 Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three entries based on Yoto families weekly engagement, (the number of distinct families using your app) during the period of Monday 15 September 2025 23:59 BST to Sunday 17 October 2025 23:50 BST.
Yoto will use its internal analytics systems to track this data, and its records will be considered final and binding.
a. The first place winner will receive $5,000 USD (or equivalent in local currency).
b. The second place winner will receive $2,000 USD (or equivalent in local currency).
c. The third place winner will receive $1,000 USD (or equivalent in local currency).
3.2 Yoto Panel Prize: A separate $2,000 USD cash prize (or equivalent in local currency) will be awarded to one entry selected as the favourite by Yoto’s internal panel. This may be the same entry as a user adoption winner or a different one.
3.3 Community Vote Prize: The top 10 entries receiving the most community votes on Yoto Space will each receive a goodie bag valued at approximately $120 USD, which will include a Yoto Player.
3.4 All prizes are non-transferable. Winners are responsible for any applicable taxes on their prize. Proof of identity may be required before any prize is awarded.
4. Winner Selection
4.1 All entries will first be reviewed by Yoto’s internal panel to ensure compliance with these Terms.
4.2 Approved entries will be published on Yoto Space, where they will be open to community voting.
4.3 Winners of the prizes will be notified by email by 24 October 2025.
4.4 If a winner does not respond within 7 days, Yoto reserves the right to reassign the prize or withdraw it entirely. Unsuccessful entrants will not be contacted.
5. Intellectual Property
5.1 You retain ownership of your entry at all times.
5.2 By entering the Competition, you grant Yoto a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display, distribute and promote your entry on the Yoto platform, and to use your App’s name, description and supporting materials for promotional purposes (with credits to you).
5.3 You may withdraw your App from the Yoto platform at any time by giving 30 days’ written notice to Yoto.
6. Data and Publicity
6.1 If your entry includes audio elements involving children, you agree to Yoto’s Audio Recording Notice.
6.2 Yoto will collect and process your personal data in accordance with its Privacy Policy.
6.3 By entering, you acknowledge that your personal data may be transferred to, and stored in, countries outside of your country of residence, including the UK. Yoto will ensure that any such transfers are compliant with applicable data protection laws, such as the UK and EU GDPR, the CCPA/CPRA in the United States, PIPEDA in Canada, and the Privacy Act in Australia, by using appropriate safeguards.
7. General
7.1 To the maximum extent permitted by law, Yoto excludes all liability for any loss or damage arising from your participation in the Competition. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits Yoto’s liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
7.2 These terms shall be governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes may be resolved in the Courts of England and Wales, except where prohibited by local law.
7.3 For residents of the United States, this Competition is a skill-based contest. For residents of Australia, this Competition is a game of skill and chance plays no part in determining the winner. For residents of Canada (excluding Quebec), this Competition is a skill-based contest. For residents of the UK and Ireland, this competition is a promotion run in accordance with applicable advertising and consumer protection standards.
